Antique Pitcher "Maitre d'Hotel" by Onnaing

A French Barbotine majolica pig water pitcher, made by Frie Onnaing, circa 1921. Known as the ‘Maitre d’Hotel’. The pig is dressed as a waiter with a wine bottle tucked under one arm and a serviette draped over the other. He holds a cork and bottle opener, and sits on a chair that forms the handle. He wears a white apron tied over a gray suit, red tie and red boutonniere, and a turquoise cap. The interior has the red glaze Onnaing is known for. This example has exceptional color, made when the Onnaing factory resumed production after WWI, as evidenced by the makers mark on the bottom. Marked with an impressed ‘Frie Onnaing and Mold No. 737.

Een antiek franse waterkan in de vorm van een varken, verkleed als ober. Bekend als de "Maitre d'hotel". Gemaakt bij de Onnaing fabriek rond 1921. Aan de onderzijde gemerkt met het Onnaing fabrieksmerk en met het modelnummer 737.
