Large 19th Century Staffordshire figure of Robert Bruce, modelled in standing pose and wearing a feathered cap, tartan cloak and kilt with a sword in one hand, on a rustic gilt captioned base. Robert Bruce was King of Scotland and defeated Edward II at Bannockburn in 1314, making peace in 1328. He was also the subject of an opera by Rossini, performed in 1846. Book reference,'Victorian Staffordshire Figures 1835-1875' Book 1, by A.& N. Harding, page 312, figure 1143. Made in the 19th century by Staffordshire, this figure is 39 cm high.
