Santos Statue 'Our lady of Antipolo'

Antique Phillipines colonial Santos hand carved wooden sculpture of Our Lady of Antipolo, also known as Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage. Her face is carved from bone.

The original statue is a 17th-century Roman Catholic wooden image of the Blessed Virgin Mary venerated in the Philippines. The iconography derives from the image of a Black Madonna which represents the Immaculate Conception, consecrated in the Cathedral of Antipolo in the Philippines and distributed to the country by Governor General Juan Niño de Tabora of Mexico via the Galleon El Almirante in 1626. The safe journey across the Pacific Ocean was attributed to the image, which gave it the title "Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage."

This large statue is made in the 18th century, with the original polychromy.  Height 70 cm. Weight 14 kgs.

Condition: Good condition, with a painting conservation treatment (consolidation) carried out in our restoration studio.

Het origineel is een 17e eeuws rooms-Katholiek beeld van de maagd Maria, vereerd in de Filippijnen. Dit beeld komt uit de tweede helft van de 18de eeuw. Met de originele polychromie.
