Nuremberg Madonna Sculpture

Large early 20th Century hand carved wooden sculpture of the so called Nuremberg Madonna, part of a Calvary scene with the mourning Mother Mary at the foot of the Cross. Hand carved in lime wood with stained and varnished finish. Height 38 cm.

The Nuremberg Madonna
The historical original dating back to around 1510 counts among the major works of art created in Nuremberg. Having met with almost cult-like adoration since the 19th century, the figure enjoys worldwide fame. Despite extensive research, experts so far have failed to identify the name of its creator, an unknown carver from Nuremberg. 

Condition: Good condition, wear consistent with age and/or use (chip to the dress).

Groot handgesneden beeld van Moeder Maria, bekend onder de naam "Nuremberg Madonna". Het origineel uit de 16de eeuw was deel van een Calvarie scene met de treurende Moeder Maria aan de voet van het kruis. Deze reproductie is gemaakt in het begin van de 20ste eeuw, in Duitsland. Handgesneden uit lindenhout, gevernist en gebeitst. Hoogte 38 cm.

Conditie: Goede conditie, in overeenstemming met leeftijd en/of gebruik (mantel heeft schade)
